JASMINE WAHI
MISSION: As a curator, Jasmine Wahi’s mission is to utilize the power of contemporary art to foster education, understanding, and engagement about both art and social issues, injustices, and strengths.
ABOUT: Jasmine Wahi is an independent curator and activist in New York City. Ms. Wahi, a graduate of New York University, began her endeavors in the commercial sector at Christies, followed by a positions in several Contemporary Asian art galleries around Manhattan. In 2008 Ms. Wahi opened up her own consultancy which produced exhibitions and cultivated emerging artists from around the globe. Since she first started, Jasmine Wahi has expanded her curatorial ventures to include a multitude of non-profit endeavors. In 2010 Ms. Wahi Co-Founded Project For Empty Space (www.projectforemptyspace.org), a non-profit arts organization in New York City that is dedicated to bringing Contemporary art to a multitude of communities through the utilization of abandoned and unusual urban spaces. Since it began Project For Empty Space has held annual and semi-annual projects in New York, Bogota, Quebec, and Newark (NJ). In 2013 PES began a long term partnership with Solo(s) Project House to curate The Gateway Projects (www.thegatewayprojects.org). In addition to Project For Empty Space, Jasmine Wahi curates gallery exhibitions all over the world from New York to Bombay. Ms. Wahi has a particular interest in the art of South Asian, Middle Eastern, and Black women, and plans to focus more on developing a dialog around ‘brown women’ in Contemporary art.Ms. Wahi has served on the South Asian Women’s Cultural Collective (SAWCC) since 2010. She is also a contributing project instructor for the Girls Empowerment Mentoring Services organization (GEMS), where she facilitates contemporary art workshops and exhibitions.
